Description
Baldwin B161 – Room‑Filling Power, Refined Elegance
Step into something special with the Baldwin B161 — a mid‑sized grand piano that roars with passion but fits beautifully into more modest spaces. At 5′‑4″ (162 cm) in length, the B161 bridges the world between intimate baby grands and full concert instruments—offering blazing tone, responsive touch, and grand‑room presence without overwhelming your space.
This isn’t just a smaller grand—it’s a powerhouse. With a speaking string length of 47 inches, an all‑spruce soundboard, and 11 solid spruce ribs, the B161 pours out a rich, singing voice that fills rooms with warmth and clarity. German Abel hammers and premium Roslau wire strings ensure each note speaks with authority and nuance. The hardwood rim of beech, paired with precision bridge work in vertically laminated maple with beech caps, channels all that energy with excellent projection and balance.
The B161 is part of Baldwin’s Academy Series, delivering legendary Baldwin craftsmanship—as durable and expressive as ever. Wet‑sand cast iron plate, a ten‑ply laminated hard maple pinblock, maple & hornbeam action materials—everything built with an eye for long‑term stability and performance.
Visually, it’s a showstopper too: available in finishes like high‑polish ebony, mahogany, walnut, classic white, and an ebony version with silver hardware. The slow‑close hydraulic fallboard adds polish; three solid brass pedals (sustain, sostenuto, soft) give full expressive control.
