Baldwin Model 243 Hamilton – The World’s Best-Selling Piano
The Baldwin Model 243 Hamilton is the best-selling piano of all time, a true icon in the history of American piano making. Produced continuously for decades, the 243 has earned its reputation as the standard of durability, musicality, and value for schools, studios, and discerning pianists around the world.
One of the secrets to its enduring popularity lies in its long bass string design. In fact, the 243 boasts a longer speaking length in the bass than the Yamaha U1, producing a fuller, more resonant tone. Built with construction materials on par with the Steinway 1098 and Mason & Hamlin Model 50, the Baldwin 243 carries forward the unmistakable richness of the classic American piano sound—warm, powerful, and inspiring.
Today, Baldwin pianos are crafted in Baldwin’s proprietary factory in China, but remain true to their original American designs and material standards. Every upright model Baldwin builds today is essentially the same piano that was proudly produced in the United States for generations, faithfully preserving its heritage of quality.
Baldwin is part of Gibson Brands, Inc., the legendary American musical instrument maker headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee. Just as Gibson guitars have defined generations of music, Baldwin pianos carry forward a legacy of artistry and innovation. Baldwin also built its reputation on an unmatched roster of celebrated pianists—second only to Steinway—who proudly performed on Baldwin instruments across concert halls, studios, and stages.
The Baldwin 243 Hamilton represents not only an instrument, but a tradition: American design, legendary tone, and unmatched value.
